The Bahamas is a leading player in maritime safety.  It ensures conclusions reached from investigations result in targeted amendments to international instruments.

  • The Bahamas collaborated with others to propose changes to the classification of Bauxite within the IMSBC Code following the loss of the BULK JUPITER (2015).
    The new schedule commences in 2021.
  • Following a fire in the cargo discharge system of SUL bulk carrier YEOMAN BONTRUP, The Bahamas submitted a paper to the IMO leading to amendments to section 3.1 of the IMSBC Code. 
  • Upon completion of its investigation into structural failure of the container vessel MOL COMFORT, The Bahamas proposed changes to the LSA Code to increase ventilation rates for totally enclosed lifeboats.
