With a maritime career spanning over 50 years, Captain Olsen’s contributions to the sector are significant. A Master Mariner by profession, he began his sea career as a fisherman in the North Atlantic Ocean and Polar regions, primarily Greenland. Upon graduating from navigational college, he went on to serve as mate and master on tankers, as well as a period on dry cargo ships. His career also included work as a marine superintendent, barge supervisor, and OIM in the offshore oil industry. After coming ashore, Captain Olsen headed the Faroese Maritime Authority before working as an independent consultant, eventually joining the BMA in 2013.
