BMA Strengthens Shipping Partnerships in Qingdao

A delegation from the Bahamas Maritime Authority (BMA), led by Asia Regional Director Captain Jahangir Hussain, visited Qingdao, China, from 6–10 July 2026 for the Authority’s first-ever promotional week in the city.

The visit marked an important milestone in the BMA’s engagement with the Chinese shipping market, providing an opportunity to meet with existing and prospective clients, as well as a range of stakeholders from the local maritime community. While the programme focused on Qingdao, several companies travelled from Ningbo and neighbouring cities to attend meetings, reflecting the growing interest in The Bahamas Flag among Chinese shipowners and managers.

The promotional week forms part of the BMA’s wider strategy to strengthen its presence in China and build closer relationships with one of the world’s most important shipping markets. Discussions focused on the benefits of the Bahamas Flag, including its commitment to quality, responsive customer service and strong Port State Control performance.

Captain Jahangir Hussain said: “Our first promotional week in Qingdao provided an excellent opportunity to engage directly with both existing and prospective clients, better understand their priorities, and demonstrate the level of support the Bahamas Maritime Authority provides. The positive response we received reflects the value of building relationships face to face, and we look forward to further strengthening our engagement with the Chinese shipping community.”

The visit reinforces the BMA’s commitment to maintaining a strong presence in key international shipping markets through regular engagement, technical support and long-term partnerships with owners, managers and industry stakeholders.
