The visit formed part of the Authority’s continued efforts to strengthen its presence in Asia and deepen relationships with shipowners and industry partners. The BMA delegation comprised Managing Director & CEO Capt. Dwain Hutchinson and Asia Regional Director Capt. Jahangir Hussain, who met with shipowners, ship managers and other maritime stakeholders to discuss developments affecting the industry and opportunities for continued collaboration. During the visit, the delegation attended a reception hosted by the President of China Classification Society (CCS) at its newly inaugurated headquarters in Shanghai. The occasion provided an opportunity to reinforce the growing relationship between the BMA and CCS, reflecting their continued cooperation in supporting the shipping industry in China and the wider region. The visit also coincided with major international maritime events taking place in Shanghai, including the North Bund Forum and Global Maritime Forum, which brought together representatives from across the global maritime community. The Bahamas Flag’s strong Port State Control performance and commitment to responsive, customer-focused service have contributed to growing interest from Chinese shipowners and managers, with an increase in Chinese-owned and managed vessels joining the Registry. Throughout the week, the BMA delegation highlighted the benefits of registration under the Bahamas Flag and provided existing clients and industry partners, including classification societies and financial institutions, with updates on the Registry’s performance and strategic priorities. The positive feedback received during the meetings reinforced the importance of maintaining close relationships with clients and understanding their operational needs. The BMA remains committed to delivering high standards of regulatory compliance alongside efficient, practical support that facilitates vessel registration and helps minimise unnecessary operational delays. Continued engagement with the Chinese maritime community remains an important part of the BMA’s strategy to strengthen its regional presence, support existing clients and develop new opportunities for the Bahamas Flag.
