BMA Engages with Cruise Industry Leaders at CLIA Cruise Forward Summit

The Bahamas Maritime Authority (BMA) participated in the CLIA Cruise Forward Summit in Miami from 27–30 October 2026, joining cruise industry leaders and stakeholders to discuss emerging trends, operational priorities and the future of the global cruise sector.

The BMA delegation was led by Managing Director & CEO Capt. Dwain Hutchinson, accompanied by Kindinicia Moore and Iris Jaquez from the Authority’s Nassau and New York offices, respectively.

A central theme throughout the summit was the industry’s continued investment in cleaner, more efficient and adaptable vessels, alongside the importance of collaboration in advancing environmental sustainability and communicating the cruise sector’s contribution to local and global economies.

The programme provided valuable insights across a range of areas, including technical developments, supply chains and logistics, hospitality, port operations and destinations. Discussions also highlighted the importance of attracting, training and retaining skilled maritime professionals to support the next generation of cruise ships and the evolving needs of the industry.

Through direct engagement with cruise operators and industry partners, the BMA gained practical feedback that will help inform its ongoing regulatory engagement and support the development and implementation of clear, consistent and effective international requirements.

As a leading Flag State for the cruise sector, the BMA remains focused on balancing robust regulatory oversight with responsive, customer-focused service. Its longstanding relationships with cruise operators, both directly and through Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA), provide an important foundation for understanding industry priorities and addressing emerging challenges.

The BMA will continue working closely with cruise shipowners and industry stakeholders to provide practical regulatory guidance and certification services that support the safe, efficient and environmentally responsible operation of Bahamas-flagged vessels, while helping the sector prepare for the future.
