BMA WELCOMES ONBOARD
Alessandro Lo Piccolo
Alessandro joined the Authority in March 2017 as Technical & Compliance Of cer for the Inspections & Surveys Department in London. As a former employee of a leading IACS classi cation Society responsible for the South West of England, he was the key point of contact with clients for survey and
type approval. He also brings decades of operational knowledge from his time on board large passenger ships. He is highly quali ed Chief Marine Engineer with ISM/ISPS/ISO/MED Lead Auditor and MLC Inspector Certi cation. His experience covers several projects of the industry, including new Ship Building, Dry-Docking planning, Commissioning Engineering, Damage Assessments, Equipment Certi cations and Risk Analysis; He has also been leading and coordinating the entire engineering operation team of a 4300 plus passengers Cruise Ship.
Deandra Johnson
Deandra joined the BMA London in July 2017 as an Administrative Assistant in the Registration Department. She studied at the University of Buckingham where she gained an LLB (Honors) as well as an LLM in International and Commercial Law with a specialism in Oil and Gas. She is
currently undertaking the Bar Professional Training Course at BPP Law in London. She describes her journey thus far with the BMA as being challenging but equally exciting and looks forward to gaining as much experience as she can in the maritime sector.
Dimitri Tsiftsis
Dimitri Tsiftsis joined the BMA’s Greece Of ce as the Regional Director on 1 November 2017. He holds a Master Diploma in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering from National Technical University of Athens, Greece. He previously served as the Deputy Director of Nippon Kaiji Kyokai
(ClassNK) for Eastern Mediterranean & Northern Black Sea Region and General Manager of their Piraeus Of ce. His career consisted of sea service as engineer of cer and ashore appointments as Superintendent, Fleet Manager and Technical Director dealing with all aspects of the technical management in shipping companies, including legal, insurance, classi cation and ship speci cation matters. In ClassNK he attended ship surveys /repairs of many kind of ships in numerous shipyards around the world. Also he quali ed as ISM / ISPS Lead Auditor and MLC Inspector. Dimitri participated in various internal marketing international committees and other shipping exhibitions as well in several strategic meetings and policy planning committees.
