SUMMARY:Bahamas Shipowners Association Industry Forum
DESCRIPTION:Crewing in Crisis… Mk II – we’ve made progress\, but there is still work to be done. \nThe Bahamas Shipowners Association (BSA) aims to take up strategic positions and drive a progressive industry dialogue. \nTwo years ago we held one of the first industry fora focused on the global effects of the coronavirus on our industry and especially on our crews. \nThe Covid pandemic is still affecting shipping operations. \nNow we are facing parallel global crisis with the war in Ukraine\, which is again impacting the shipping industry and our crews – with far reaching global impact on food and fuel prices and financial conditions. \nThese are indeed unprecedented times. Nevertheless\, we need to ask the question: Where are we with seafarer wellbeing initiatives\, employment improvements\, and progressive crewing strategies – and how well prepared can our industry be for the next ’black swan’? \n

SUMMARY:Crew Welfare Week
DESCRIPTION:The COVID-19 has marked a new chapter in the nature of seafarers’ work. This pandemic\, which has been challenging for the whole world\, has also pushed seafarers to their limits as they are working long and hard\, facing unprecedented circumstances in order to keep trade flowing. Now\, more than ever\, seafarers need to be acknowledged for their valuable role\, designated as key workers to ensure priority vaccination and access to safe transit and travel.  As a result the whole industry has shed its attention to seafarers; wellness\, well-being and prosperity or in other words their welfare.\nAs seafarers play a vital role for a safer and sustainable shipping\, the topic of Crew Welfare is now more topical than ever. With that in mind\, we are pleased to announce the Crew Welfare Week as an industry initiative to discuss and embrace the role of the seafarers in shipping.\nCrew Welfare is on the top of the agenda of several industry stakeholders with calls from the Industry by the Neptune Declaration on “Seafarer Wellbeing and Crew Change” supported by more than 750 organisations of all types across the industry setting aside the regulatory requirement in many standards (ILO MLC\, TMSA\, DryBMS).

SUMMARY:Lloyd’s List Greek Shipping Awards
DESCRIPTION:VIRTUAL 2020 Awards Ceremony dedicated to Greek shipping’s virtues\n\nFor the first time\, the 2020 Awards will unfold excitingly before an even larger\, worldwide online audience.\n\nStreaming Friday 4 December 2020\n18:30 Athens time \n\nFor the first time since its launch in 2004\, the drama of the Lloyd’s List Greek Shipping Awards will not play out in front of a packed house in Athens. \nInstead\, the 2020 Awards – the world’s best-supported shipping awards event – will unfold excitingly before an even larger\, worldwide online audience. \nThe Greek Shipping Awards over the years is used to attracting audiences of 1\,000 or more guests and has become an unmissable annual event for the Greek shipping community and its partners. Our aim is to ensure that this year is no exception. \nAccordingly\, we have decided to hold our 2020 event as a Virtual Awards Ceremony\, guaranteeing the quality of the event and protecting the health of our many friends\, colleagues and supporters in the maritime community. \nAlthough going Virtual has been dictated by responsibility\, this year’s format offers some key benefits. Among these are a boundless opportunity to win new friends and attract greater attention than ever before to the achievements of Greek shipping\, comprising both industry leaders and unsung heroes as well as emerging talent from a new generation involved in the business. \nIn grappling with the fallout from the coronavirus pandemic\, Greek shipping has once again proved its adaptability and durability\, continuing to play a major role in ensuring vital commodities and goods are transported by sea to their destinations. Many of the industry’s service partners have also risen to the challenges\, innovating with new technologies or services that have enabled the country’s shipowners to operate globally with little or no interruption. \nMaintaining high levels of efficiency\, safety and service under these circumstances\, while successfully protecting the health of employees ashore and at sea\, is a remarkable achievement that the industry as a whole can take pride in. \nOvercoming adversity in the coronavirus era is sure to be a theme running through this year’s Greek Shipping Awards. We look forward to a particularly strong field of candidates that have demonstrated outstanding leadership in tackling the problems engendered by the pandemic\, or else other types of meritorious achievement despite the pandemic. \nOnce again\, a prestigious\, knowledgeable industry panel of judges will assess all nominations and have the responsibility of deciding the winners of this year’s Awards. \nFor more information visit the link below.
