Bahamas Yacht Codes


The Bahamas Maritime Authority is pleased to introduce three new codes to provide design criteria, construction standards and as to minimise the risk to such yachts, persons onboard and the environment for small yachts, large yachts and passenger yachts.

Bahamas Large Charter Yacht Code (BLYC)


The BLYC applies to a motor or sailing yachts of 24 metres in load line length and above (if built before 21 July 1968, which is of 150GT and above) and which, at the time, is in commercial use for sport or pleasure and carries no cargo and no more than 12 passengers including social guests. Sail training yachts are included in this application.

Bahamas Small Charter Yacht Code (BSYC)


The BSCY applies to a motor or sailing yacht of  12 metres and above but less than 24 metres in in load line length and which, at the time, is in commercial use for sport or pleasure and carries no cargo and no more than 12 passengers including social guests. Sail training yachts are included in this application.

Bahamas Passenger Yacht Code (BPYC)


The BPYC applies only to passenger yachts in private or commercial use and engaged on international voyages whilst carrying more than 12 but not more than 36 passengers with a maximum number of persons on board not more than 200 and which do not carry cargo.

Previous version of The Bahamas Yacht Code


Version 1 of Bahamas Yacht Code for Large Commercial Yachts applies to all yachts constructed before 01 January 2021, yachts of 24 metres in load line length and above and which carry no cargo and no more than 12 passengers, including social guests.
